Sandyās Masterpost for starting a newĀ Simblr!Ā š
Welcome to the community! Iām so glad you like my blog! Just a few months ago I was also new to the community so I know how daunting it can be! Below Iāve put together a bunch of helpful tips and links that Iāve either used in the past or believe will be useful to you, and any other new/aspiring simblrs! Obviously, everything is subjective- what works for me might not work for everyone else!
š The Basics:
Make your tumblr a seperate tumblr, not a sideblog under your main/personal blog. It will make everything easier in the long run, trust me!
Use your description to advertise to others what you and your blog are all about. Also having either your URL or your avatar sim related will quickly advertise to others that youāre a simblr!Ā
Enable replies and asks in your blogs settings, if you want people to be able to interact with you and your posts! Bare in mind an interactive simblr is much more approachable!!
Keep it sim related! A few personal posts every once and a while is perfectly fine, but post a lot of unrelated stuff you could lose followers.Ā
Network! Follow other simblrās, like their posts, leave friendly and encouraging comments! Making friends in this community is a sure-fire way to get started. I would be nowhere without my simblr friends!
Donāt become disheartened if it takes you a while to take off! Every simblr grows at a different rate.
Donāt mistag your posts! Failing to tag your NSFW content or tagging posts that arenāt cc posts as ts4cc will make you very unpopular.
Keep your blog atleast 80% original content! Itās much easier for a blog that tries to be original to gain traction in this community!Ā
Donāt get caught up in how many followers/notes you have! Just post what you post because you love it! Donāt worry what other people think.
Everyone at some point or another will recieve anon hate. Itās sad that thereās so many negative people out there, but my advice is just to delete it. If you do want to post it, handle it with grace and dignity! (think of Audrey Hepburn!)
This is more a personal one but: try your best to avoid the drama!!
Finally, treasure your followers & always stay humble!
š Common Simblr Terms Explained:
NSFW: Not safe for work. This is used for any posts that contain nudity of adult themes! Itās very important to tag these posts.
WIP: Work In Progress. This can refer to any sim related project that is unfinished.Ā
WCIF: Where Can I Find? If someone sees a peice of CC in one of your posts that they like they may send you aĀ āWCIFā through your ask box, theyāre simply asking where they can find that certain peice of cc. Not all simblrs agree to answer WCIFās but itās certainly very nice to!
MM: Maxis Match. Refering to custom content that matches the general
aesthetic
of the game.
Alpha:Ā Ā Refers to hairstyles that donāt fit the aesthetic of the game, as they have alpha layers which allow certain parts of the mesh to be transparent. This is what makes alpha hairstyles more realistic looking.
Clayified: Refers to Alpha hairstyles that have been retextured to look more maxis match.Ā
This is everything I could think of! I hope something here helps you get started! If youāre hoping to be a story based blog Iād reccomend checking out my storytelling masterpost!Ā Otherwise, good luck love!!Ā š
Artist friends, let me just tell you a thing. FUCK Wacom. Fuck Wacom and their planned obsolescence, fuck Wacom and their broken drivers, fuck Wacom and their over-priced tablets. For years weāve dealt with them with no alternatives but let me tell you a thing.
I recently found out my Intuos 4ā²s Pen had broken and rather than spend Ā£60-89 for a new one I decided to get a new tablet. Now, I could get the new āIntuosā (which is just the re-branded Bamboo) and i was going to until I found this beast.
This is the HuionĀ
H610, it has almost twice the drawing space of the low-end Intuos and double the pressure levels. The one and only negative is that the pen requires a battery.
Not only that, it is larger than my Intuos 4 which I paid £150 for back in the day. Know how much this cost? £55. The same as the basic Intuos.
I am in LOVE with this thing. Letās compare this with the lowest of the low end Wacom Intuos line.
Not to mention the Intuos is HIDEOUS with buttons that are in incredibly awkward places.
The fact that a £55 matches and exceeds the £150 Intuos 4 I bought years ago speaks worlds. And do you know what the very final nail in the coffin is?
THE DRIVERS. ACTUALLY. WORK.
Itās time Wacom had some real competition in the market, if youāre looking for a new tablet please consider a Huion over a Wacom. I used to be a Wacom fanboy too but now?
All I can find is good reviews on this thing and people doing the same thing I am doing, trying to convince people itās worth it. So⦠You have the information, use it as you will.
I have a huion H610 and I absolutely love it
I had a huion H610 and I can absolutely confirm that it was an extremely nice tablet and for the use I got out of it- an outstanding value. It most certainly performed comparably nicer than my intuos. That said, Huion has a bit to work on with durability. And I had more issues with huion drivers than I ever did wacom. I got maybe 2 years out of the H610 before it died. Now, I do put a lot of mileage on my tablets and I produce work daily- so two straight years of that⦠TL;DR, itās a worthy investment if you arenāt saving for a tablet monitor, but if youāre like me and you live in Photoshop every day, you get what you pay for.
10/10 recommend this tablet for those on a budget that want more surface, better pressure sensitivity for a hella good price. Great for students!
Iām not convinced it has the endurance for a heavy work load.
My intuos 3 still lives.
I work at a Digital painting classes and we had only Wacom tablets for two years, but HUION was kind enough to provide their tablets for our classes. We have a lot of different Huion tablets and all of them work wonders! Pens are much convenient especially in comparison to Wacom Intuos/Bamboo pens (theyāre so Ā freacking thin). You donāt have to charge them very often (it can work somewhere around 2-3 months).Ā
I have that wacom and it works just fine but reblogging for future uses (when my wacom finally decides to let go)
I use a H610 pro (upgraded from a 2008 small Wacom bamboo), have done for two and a half years, and Iām drawing constantlyĀ and this thing has yet to kick the bucket or give me any major issues.Ā
My pen is on its way out (the casing has cracked and Iāve pulled the sections apart by accident a couple of times, but it still works! Itās just itās only a matter of time before the crack gets bigger and I have to start taping it up lmao) and I donāt know how well it would hold up to being carried/bashed around a lot, but aside from the pen casing crack (which rn is having exactly zero affect on my ability to draw) Iāve had no problems with it and I absolutely swear by this thing.
I know a ton of you have been waiting for this one. Teaching you to make your own plastic keychains!
To start off, I think the biggest question everyone has is what I use to make them. I work with shrink film. You might be familiar with Shinky Dink brand shrink film as a kid. I use Grafix brand white inkjet shrink film. The inkjet kind is relatively pricey compared to the regular kind. If youāre using regular, I donāt recommend you stick it in your printer. Sharpie markers would be good for that.
Alright, now open up the file with the images that youāre working with. Make sure your images are a lot bigger than you want your finished product to be since they shrink significantly.
Youāll also want to lighten the opacity to about half. I go somewhere between 50-60%.
Now print your image out! Iāve found that it works best for me when I have it at the plain paper setting, and standard print quality.
Holepunch with a ¼" holepuncher BEFORE you shrink them. Itās so much more work to have to punch holes when your plastic is thick!
Cut out your design, leaving the amount of border you want.
Set them on a tray for convenience. An aluminum foil sheet works too, but I recommend cookie trays because they are easier and quicker to get out of the oven.
Preset heat. Your shrink film package will tell you what temperature to set it at, but I find that it isnāt always accurate for me. I generally set temperature to 350 degrees or so.
Put them in the oven. Remember to keep track of time! I leave them in for about a minute and a half.
After time is up they should be super small! Magic!
If your charms are not flat, put something heavy on it right out of the oven when they are still hot and malleable.
If youād like to, you can seal them now. In my last two batches, I used clear topcoat nail polish. The problem with that is that I need between 3-5 coats of it, and it takes a while to dry. Iāve been experimenting with modpodge.
For lariats, you can use jump rings or lobster clasps.
Here is one that I made that wasnāt sealed. The finished texture after shrinking is a little bit rough. Thereās nothing wrong with leaving them unsealed, but because they are inkjet printed, the colors wash right of without protection.
This is one that was sealed with modpodge. The colors become a little more vibrant and smooth and water resistant. Things often get stuck on when applying or drying so be careful.
These ones down here were sealed with clear nail polish. They come out shiny if you put enough coats, but the grainy texture will still be there.
Well, there ya go! Have fun making your own keychains!
fullten dunno how in to DIY you are, but this seems like a way to get more cute things in your life.
This is super cuteĀ
I do this!! You can also glaze them with Mod Podge Dimensional Magic! It gives it a nice, shiny surface. Resin would work too, and it would be more durable.
